It's going to be a vintage year for certain crops in the West Country. Mattresses, old stereos, kitchen work-tops, bunk bed ladders, carpets and rotary clothes-dryers are expected to do particularly well, especially in Somerset.

Those were just some of the items which appeared overnight in a field at Langford Budville, near Wellington, recently. And landowners and countrylovers fear there will be many more nasty surprises springing up in fields, woods, lanes and lay-bys in the months to come.
