Work Together for Good of Countryside ; Letters

Summary

In their very eloquent letter to the Western Daily Press on December 8, "Future generations to face poorquality life", our wonderful wildlife protection agencies have once again shown scant disregard for a common sense approach to land management. Have they not been watching the television or listening to the radio over the past few months? There is not a day which goes by without a reminder of the dire economic situation that this country, and yes that includes the wonderful West Country, finds itself in after years of overspending on public, protectionist top-down policies. The remit for getting things done has firmly and squarely been transferred to the private sector, and in many cases that means it is the private sector who will pick up the bill too.

Therefore I find it incredulous that nine of the region's most esteemed wildlife experts are still bleating on about the Government's "out of date approach that casts regulation and the environment as enemies of growth". Regulation is most definitely an enemy of growth but to say that the environment is too is unbelievable coming from these experts. My advice to these experts is to seize the initiative and work with the private sector to bring about the change they so desire.
