Two MPs yesterday defended their decision to employ their wives in their parliamentary offices and claimed that politicians should not be banned from giving jobs to family members.

This comes after the scandal that has ended the political career of the senior Tory, Derek Conway, who has announced he will stand down from Parliament at the next election, after he was censured for paying his sons more than pounds80,000 from public funds to work as research assistants.
