Winter's Tales

Summary

In the autumn we challenged Western Daily Press readers to write a winter's tale in one of two categories: fictional feature up to 3,000 words and short story up to 500 words. Your entries flooded in. We received so many - and of such a high standard - that the judges asked for more time to make their final decisions. Yesterday we published the winner in each category and over the next few days we will publish the runners up and some of the best of the many others submitted. Each winner will receive Pounds 100 of National Book Tokens and there will be five runners-up prizes, drawn from the two categories, of a Pounds 10 National Book Token. Here are the winners: Feature winner: Noel Sweeney, Worle, Somerset; short story winner: Mrs C Kerslake, Almondsbury, Bristol. Runners up: Roy Youngs, Wells, Somerset; Mrs J Barnfield of Frampton on Severn, Gloucestershire; Barney Hollinswaite (aged 12) of Frampton Cotterell, Bristol; Rosie Bevan, (age 13) of Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, and Bas Axford, of Midsomer Norton, Somerset.
