Over the past few years, I have been able to combine a love for elephants with the joys of adventure, and by writing about my adventures, I find myself doing a great deal of good for elephants. That can't be bad, can it? Brought up in some of the remoter parts of Zimbabwe, I first came to this country in 1963, set on becoming a teacher. Circumstances intervened, so I became a policeman, and in that capacity there were few nicer places to work than the Stroud Valley.

Decades later, I am still there, although I return to Africa on a regular basis.
