Sherborne residents are saying reductions to the railway station's ticket office opening hours are being introduced without consultation.
South West Trains, which operates the office in the Dorset town's station, says it has just concluded a public consultation period which identified peak times when the booking office should be open. As a result it intends closing most afternoons and Sundays. Raising the issue from the public gallery during Monday night's town council meeting, former mayor Jane Smith said: "Something as important as this should have been brought to the attention of the council. A large proportion of rail users in Sherborne are elderly and they do not like using ticket machines. My belief is this is all to do with the fact we are going to lose our crossing keeper."See the full content of this document
