The Benefits of Investing in the Future

Summary

At a time when we're seeing rising costs of energy, greater instability over imports of oil and gas from overseas and serious concerns resurfacing over nuclear power, the energy challenges facing us seem huge. All of this, coupled with mounting concerns over the sustainability of our environment, means that it must be time to look at how Britain can make the best of what we've got.

And that's where renewable energy comes in. Energy from technologies like wind farms have been commercially successful for over 20 years, and the UK has a huge opportunity to capitalise on its abundant natural resources to meet the country's future energy needs and to reduce our dependency on unsustainable imported fuels. Triodos Renewables PLC, based in Bristol, is one such company that has been turning the tide of our energy supplies for more than 15 years. With a diverse portfolio of projects including wind, hydro and tidal technologies, the company now generates enough power for the annual needs of 24,500 homes and it plans to grow rapidly over the next few years. And it does this by offering shares to thousands of individuals to invest - it is the UK's most widely owned renewables company.
