Scottish and Newcastle, owner of Bulmers, is to take it off the market at the end of March. And not before time. Along with the ersatz 'ciders' concocted in the bosky environs of industrial estates in Birmingham and Liverpool from apple concentrate, carbonated water, glucose and alcohol, White Lightning has consistently dragged down the good name of cider.
