There's an area of land that seems to stretch from Gloucestershire up through the West Midlands towards Cheshire where we have experienced a drought year that compares in severity with that of 1976.

Fields everywhere are brown; our own fields have odd green patches in them in the damp places where you should really put a drain. It's a really strange phenomenon because in the scheme of things we live on a tiny island, I have friends who live in Cumbria where it is so wet that they have had to keep their cows in at night.
