It cost only one old penny to send to Bristol, but now nearly 170 years later, this valuable Victorian envelope is set to fetch up to Pounds 180 at auction.
The envelope features a Penny Black postage stamp and is simply addressed to Messrs John Hare and Company, Temple Gate, Bristol. It is possible the envelope - sent to the linoleum and floor cloth manufacturer - was among the earliest pieces of mail to travel to Bristol by rail, as Temple Meads railway station opened only several months earlier now celebrates its 170th anniversary.See the full content of this document
