CHARIOTS OF FIRE (1981). .. . five, 2.40pm Oscar-winning drama based on the true story of British runners Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, going for gold at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. The two athletes are driven by very different reasons - Liddell is inspired by his devout Christian faith, while Abrahams hopes to triumph over the antisemitism he has endured all his life. Starring Ian Charleson, Ben Cross, with Nigel Havers, John Gielgud and Ian Holm. Vangelis provides the soundtrack.
