Summary


Two family firms overseeing the demolition of a Somerset depot when a 19-year-old man was seriously hurt were fined more than pounds8,000 for breaches of health and safety regulations.

Contractors J Bailey and Sons, of Cannards Grave, Shepton Mallet, employed Bruton-based agricultural contractors R Smith and Son to demolish an office in 2005. But Frome magistrates heard that neither firm had the relevant experience, leading to the collapse of the building.
