My first memories of Shirley Bassey are of her sweeping on stage to perform on popular TV shows like Sunday Night At the London Palladium, when I was a little girl.
I thought she was the most glamorous of creatures with her slinky, sequinned dresses, high heels and cherry lips; and what an amazing noise she made, belting out torch songs in gloriously, rich, deep tones.
