In 1770, a marriage could be null and void if a woman "seduced or betrayed a man into matrimony by using scents, paints, cosmetics, waxes, artificial teeth, false hair, high-heeled shoes, iron stays or bolstered hips".

We learn as much from an 18th-century cartoon of two grotesque looking dames that's currently on show at Radstock Museum, where its new exhibition Law and Order gives us a vivid insight into the history of policing in Somerset, Bath and Bristol.
