The family of Somerset soldier Benjamin Knight, killed in the RAF Nimrod spy plane disaster in Afghanistan, yesterday heard a crackling radio recording of the last moments before he died.

Oxford Coroner's Court was cleared yesterday so the parents of the 14 British servicemen who died on board the plane, including Bridgwater Sgt Knight, 25, could hear the cockpit recording from Nimrod XV 230 in private for the first time. Until yesterday the families had seen only a transcript of the crew's communications.
