Lore McWeeney, a nurse and former war refugee, has died aged 82.

Ms McWeeney was born in Berlin in 1926. She had a happy childhood but her family was persecuted when Hitler came to power. The family decided to leave the country for South America, but while Ms McWeeney and her elder sister Helga were allowed to leave Germany, her parents were refused exit visas. They died in a concentration camp during World War II. Ms McWeeney was educated at Minehead, Somerset, and was a student teacher for a short time in Frome before qualifying as a state registered nurse.
