WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21 A Night of Heroes: The Military Awards ITV1, 8.30pm In 2008, the first Sun Military Awards - aka the Millies - was launched. The brainchild of Prince Charles, he was joined by wife Camilla and a host of other familiar faces to salute the winners and hand out the gongs at Hampton Court Palace. Three years on and it's still going strong as Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden prove when they present the fourth annual gala event from London's Imperial War Museum. They are joined by stars from the worlds of entertainment and sport, including Frank Lampard, Holly Willoughby and Simon Pegg, along with senior members of the royal family.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22 Sports Personality Of The Year BBC One, 8pm This programme is traditionally broadcast at this point every year, and this time around, it's taking place in Salford, where many of the Beeb's services are gradually being located. This one has courted controversy by having a male-only shortlist of contenders for the main award. The ten in contention are Andy Murray, Alastair Cook, Amir Khan, Darren Clarke, Mark Cavendish, Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Mo Farah, Dai Greene and Andrew Strauss.
