David Clensy meets Monty who is retiring after 11 years' police service Monty is taking the prospect of retirement quietly and calmly. It's his human counterparts who are struggling to hold back the tears as their faithful companion - one of the Avon and Somerset force's longest serving police horses - hangs up his bridle for good.

"We're all feeling a bit weepy this morning," admits Sgt Kerry Williams, as 17-year-old Monty walks for the final time across the courtyard at the Bower Ashton police stables.
