Summary
The letter by your correspondent John Rogers regarding First Great Western's attitude to mobility scooters is surely unfair. I hope he read the letter on the same page by Terry Hughes, where the rail industry's very fair and balanced attitude to scooters is clearly spelled out.
Mr Rogers himself says "They are designed for the pavement, not the road". Precisely, and certainly not for travelling on trains. In fact I would say they constitute a danger to other passengers. They are, after all, a motorised vehicle containing electrical equipment and acid-filled batteries. The fact that train companies accommodate such scooters at all is surely to their credit and should be at their discretion.
