Summary


A Street woman who almost lost her life and then her home in the space of two weeks says she still has every reason to smile. Mitzi Upton's Bovemoor Close home made headlines last week when two window cleaners spotted a blaze in her kitchen and rushed to extinguish it. But while the drama was unfolding at her home, Mitzi was in Yeovil District Hospital, fighting for her life after being poisoned by toxic fumes from a fire.

Mitzi, who suffers from emphysema and is on the transplant list awaiting two lungs, had been at home with her son Dan when she began to feel unwell and was unable to catch her breath. Taking in additional oxygen through the supplemental tanks in her home failed to help, and with her son's help, she made it to the front door, only to collapse in his arms. Paramedics arrived on the scene moments later, at which point she had stopped breathing.
