By pure chance I came across recollections of Mrs Joan Doel which had been placed on World War II People's War on BBC Wiltshire's website.
She wrote that, after having just qualified as a teacher, she was sent with evacuee children from her school in Manchester to Brinscall, a small village on the Lancashire moorland. I was a pupil at St Joseph's School to which the city children were allocated, and Mrs Doel - who was then our Miss Sarjantson - became a well-loved teacher.See the full content of this document
