Summary
A new memorial has been dedicated to veterans of the Royal Naval Patrol Service who worked to clear the seas of deadly Nazi mines during World War II.
Former sailors attended the special dedication event at the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield to commemorate the service known fondly as the "Navy within a Navy". Established in August 1939, with an initial fleet made up of just 6,000 fishermen and 200 requisitioned trawlers, drifters, pleasure steamers and whaling vessels, the Royal Naval Patrol Service played a key part in the war effort.See the full content of this document
