Summary


Doug Land, who was born in Totterdown, Bristol, lied about his age so he could join the Army and serve in the Second World War.

He served in France and Belgium before working for the Military Police in Cairo. After leaving the Army in 1948, he worked as a taxi driver for a while before becoming a track worker on the railways, based at Bristol Temple Meads. He had a number of promotions until he eventually became a supervisor.
