I Stand corrected, Mr Dunlop (Your Say, November 26).
I took my information from an original publicity film produced by De Havilland in the 1940s, which clearly stated balsa wood was used extensively in the Mosquito's production. They were concerned because supplies were running short and that threatened the production line. As for the dangers involved in bailing out, I took these from numerous books I have concerning the aircraft and a friend who flew the type during World War II as navigator.
