A star of medical drama The Royal has called for the scrapping of late licences for pubs in residential areas after he was attacked by a drunk man.

Robert Daws, who plays Dr Gordon Ormerod in the ITV series, was punched unconscious when he asked a man causing a late-night disturbance outside his home to keep the noise down.
