IT'S A FACT Today is the 40th anniversary of the UK's switch to decimal currency, when we said goodbye to pounds shillings and pence (Pounds sd) and hello to pounds and new pees (Pounds p).
The actual change of coinage started on April 23, 1968, when the first decimal coins were issued: 5p and 10p. They were identical in size, weight and value to the old shilling (12d) and florin (24d).See the full content of this document
