Detectives in Gloucestershire are "sitting in cars eating crisps" according to one of its top police officers who said there is a skills shortage and a lack of diversity in the police as experienced officers move to the private sector.

At a Police Federation meeting, Chief Superintendent Gavin Thomas said a more diverse mix was needed for officers to best serve communities.
