Summary


It is vitally important that the Government wakes up to the wealth of importance that UK farmers bring to our daily lives. To treat the food makers with anything approaching indifference is defying all the acceptable rules of common sense.

It seems possible, following the statement that the Agricultural Wages Board (AWB) is in the spotlight for cuts, according to TUC South West regional secretary Nigel Costly, who states that "settled and harmonious" arrangements in industrial relations are at risk. I am particularly drawn to this phrase, because it is bordering on contempt of the present situation between farm workers and paymasters.
