I write with reference to the article in the Western Daily Press on November 1 relating to the memoirs of Norman Stoate, RN.

I can certainly confirm the enormous explosions in Ostend harbour in January, 1945. My flotilla of landing craft (LCAs) was in the harbour at the time and we were forced to take shelter in the submarine pens, although even there the blast waves could easily be felt.
