Don't Suffer the Cramps, Take Action

Summary

The pain can occur in the lower abdomen and sometimes in the back or legs. Medical conditions such as endometriosis, an infection or cysts can cause period pains and can happen later in life and affect women in their 40s and 50s. The most common type of period pain isn't caused by any medical problem. Researchers believe that the pain is caused by the body producing chemicals called prostaglandins, which help the womb to squeeze and push out its lining during a period.

Another way to help relieve the pain is to put heat on the area - this can be by using a hot water bottle, appropriate self-heating patch or pack that is heated in the microwave.
