; Devastated by Tb Fraud Allegations

Summary

A leading dairy farmer killed himself because he feared he would go to prison for fraud, an inquest heard.

John Round, 44, was being investigated over allegations that he had been switching cattle ear tags to send less productive cows to slaughter instead of TB-infected ones. The inquest heard from Mr Round's wife Sophie that her husband had been told by milk supplier Dairy Crest it was stopping his milk entering the food chain because he may have been supplying TB-infec-ted milk. The father-of-three became more depressed in the weeks before his death because he feared he would lose his 800-strong herd, his farm and his good name. Mr Round, who ran Elmore Back Farm, near Gloucester, won the Association of British Dairy Farmers gold cup in 2005.
