Summary


In the concluding part of our West at War series we look at the remarkable courage of the Glorious Glosters during the Korean War when against all odds the courage of this band of men shone through in the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Imjin River. We start by speaking to one veteran's memories of the war half a world away He might be nearly 80, and have recently suffered a heart attack, but, along with about 60 other veterans, old Gloster Ben Whitchurch has just flown out to Korea to honour his fallen colleagues in a war that's been largely forgotten by the West.

It was on 'Hill 235' - later renamed Gloster Hill - that Ben and 400 other brave soldiers of the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment, held out for three days against a vast Chinese army numbered in tens of thousands.
