Three conmen tried to sell the Ritz Hotel for Pounds 250 million in an ambitious scam that was simply "too good to be true", a court was told.

The trio chose their marks well, finding victims who were interested in the high-stakes world of trophy properties and sucking them in with false promises until they handed over a Pounds 1 million deposit, Southwark Crown Court in central London heard yesterday.
