In reply to DG Robert's letter ("Noose must never return", WDP, November 2) I would like to say that my original letter did contain my position over the restoration of capital punishment but this was edited out in the published version.

My position is that, where a clear identification of the killer can be made (for example, from CCTV footage or through a large number of witnesses), then why shouldn't a death penalty be given? After all, there can be absolutely no question of "the wrong person" being arrested.
