I nearly drowned last week! I was lounging in my bath inhaling the aroma of a scented candle while listening to local radio when the announcer declared that Somerset County Council is to employ a consultant at Pounds 800 per day to advise the Chief Executive.

Instead of shouting Eureka! I swore vehemently, slipped backwards banging my head and lost consciousness as I disappeared beneath the water. My wife saved me by hauling me out of the tub and telling me to calm down. This is the same council that has told us 1,500 jobs must be lost to balance the books, libraries must close and bus services to cease running.
