Ancient Finds Safeguarded for Generations

Summary

Over 60,000 important objects are to be safeguarded for future generations as a result of signed agreements between Somerset County Council, North Somerset Council and Weston-super-Mare Town Council.

The collection includes Iron Age and Roman artefacts, key geological finds and important art works. Under these agreements, the reserve collections, previously held at the Weston-super-Mare Museum, will now be cared for by Somerset County Council at its new Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton. Councillor Christine Lawrence, Somerset County Council's cabinet member for the community, said: "We are delighted this new partnership has been established. It is one example of what local authorities can achieve together. The arrangement ensures that some of our heritage collections, which make the ancient county of Somerset such a special place, are kept for future generations to enjoy."
