Aman had an affair with his daughter-in-law and then stabbed his son during a resulting row, a court has been told. Paul Godden, 45, who denies the charges, separated from his wife last year and moved in with his son, Ashley, who was living with his family in Yeovil, Somerset. But rather than showing his gratitude, he began a relationship with Ashley's wife, Melanie. The affair left Ashley "devastated",

Taunton Crown Court was told at a trial this week. By November the relationship had continued to the point that Paul was living with Melanie and her two young children in her family home, and Ashley had moved out to live in a one-bedroomed flat which was rented out to his father, said Jennifer Tallentire, prosecuting. Later that month the father and son met at the flat, and an argument started which led to Ashley being stabbed by his father, it is alleged. Paul Godden, whose address was given as a bail hostel in Bournemouth, has pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent and an alternative charge of unlawful wounding.
