Why don't the Burden sisters (Western Daily Press, April 30) enter into a civil partnership? It would not conflict with their Christian beliefs as it is not marriage, and the Bible does not say that "thou shall not enter into a civil partnership". Why don't they test the law? It might work.
Like many of your readers, I have been touched by the plight of the Misses Burden (Western Daily Press, April 30). I was moved to create a petition on the Prime Minister's website. However, I was pleased to see that one already exists, asking the Prime Minister to treat unmarried siblings on the same footing as married couples or those in civic partnerships for IHT purposes.
The forces of science and weirdness are massing once again on the border that separates them, firing salvoes of information over the heads of the poor bewildered public. In the latest skirmish, Prince Charles is getting a pasting from a Professor at Exeter University for allegedly using misleading and inaccurate claims in his guides to alternative medicine, which have been published by his Foundation for Integrated Health.
I Was the chairman of the community meeting held on April 23 to discuss the possibility of new nuclear build at Hinkley Point, "Fears over storage of Hinkley's nuclear waste" (Western Daily Press, April 28). On this occasion, I cannot leave the bias unchallenged. We welcomed members of the local community to the meeting and also answered questions from TV, radio and newspaper journalists.
Most annoying thing that came through my front door this week: a ballpoint pen, in an envelope, from a charity asking for money. You cannot throw the pen away because then you feel guilty about them having spent on it money that should have gone to help the starving.
I Asked the internet how much information there is out there. But I couldn't understand the answer, and had to go to a key. It said this: "One terabyte, the smallest practical measure for our project, is a million megabytes, which is equivalent to the textual content of a million books. An exabyte, which is what we use to report the final results, is a billion gigabtyes."
Received today: five letters, three of them junk; 43 emails, 13 of them spam (and one from that woman again, saying she'd attached a picture of herself naked); and four texts, including one from the phone company telling me I haven't been texting enough. But, on my landline, not a single cold-calling telephone salesman chained to a desk in Newcastle trying to sell me life insurance for my cat or a credit card from a bank that's about to go bust.
I Must comment on the letter comparing Prince William's trip to the Isle of Wight with Guy Gibson and Doug Bader, "Chiefs ignored RAF joyrides"(Your Say, April 26). Guy Gibson did indeed fly a Blenheim bomber from Wellingore to Cardiff to marry his sweetheart.
In answer to Debbie Rundle's article (April 26), if you keep hens you should fence them in safely. If foxes should be shot, why not cats who roam anywhere killing songbirds. At least foxes kill mainly to eat. Cats kill for the joy of it.
The report of the intended closure of Trowbridge Driving Test Centre has implications for many other market towns in the South West. If the Driving Standards Agency applied the same criteria to other test centres, many could be lost. The centres at Minehead and Penzance are already threatened.
I Would say to Ann Field of Unite, it is your union which has lost the jobs at Tanner & Butler Printers. Any company can operate only if it is competitive within its own marketplace. The lesson to be learned is not to make threats of strike action if you do not know the financial position of the company you are dealing with.
Help Children Read at Home ; It's Scandalous to Hear How so Many Schoolchildren Are Unable to Read.
It's scandalous to hear how so many schoolchildren are unable to read. Clearly, primary education is failing a considerable number of our children and giving them so little access to the written word.
While Mr Barrington has every right to express his opinion regarding the rights and wrongs of fox-hunting, I am puzzled why he took so long to feel this way. For many years, he was a supporter of the League Against Cruel Sport. No doubt, he knew what their views were.
I See that Robin Page is still writing articles with the same blinkered approach of a self-acclaimed expert on country life and wildlife but, as usual, gets it all wrong, "Squirrels on the pill?" (Western Daily Press, April 25). The grey squirrel does not steal eggs. It eats them as part of its food source, the same as bird food and bulbs. Mr Page should know that it is humans who steal.
I See the mouth of Man- chester is still blaming referees every time a penalty is awarded against Man Utd. When Ronaldo sent one in their favour into orbit I note there was no criticism.
Your correspondent Colin McNamee accuses me - "Democracy gone in favour of hypocrisy" (Your Say, April 22) - of disrespect for the will of the people of Ireland. The European Parliament amendment to which he refers stated that a decision by referendum has greater legitimacy than a vote in Parliament. I voted against it because I do not believe it to be true.
